Volunteer Job Announcement: Panel of Judges - The John Fawole Chess Awards

Position: Volunteer Panel Member
Duration: February 2024 to February 2025
Location: 100% Remote

Job Description:
The John Fawole Chess Awards organizing committee is currently seeking passionate volunteers to join the esteemed panel of judges for the upcoming awards cycle. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are enthusiastic about chess and want to contribute to the recognition and celebration of exceptional talent and innovation in the game.

Responsibilities:
Review, Analysis, and Performance Evaluation: Carefully review and analyze the performances of chess players throughout the year in review for The John Fawole Chess Awards. This will involve assessing the player’s achievements, tournament results, rankings, and contributions to the chess community. Your role will be to evaluate the player’s performance and determine their eligibility for the nominee list.

Research and Data Collection: Conduct thorough research and gather relevant data to support evaluations, which may involve studying player’s tournament activities, analyzing nominees for recognition awards, and staying updated on current trends in Nigeria Chess.

Deliberation and Decision-Making: Collaborate with fellow panel members in thoughtful deliberation to select the most deserving nominees and winners for each category, ensuring fairness and transparency.

Requirements:

  • Passion for chess and a deep understanding of the game.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Availability from February 2024 to February 2025.
  • Students are encouraged to apply as the experience gained can be valuable for their resumes.

The selection process will involve a thorough review of all applications, followed by interviews with shortlisted candidates. Successful applicants will be notified by February 12, 2024.
